 Manalapan, NJ is located just 15 miles from the Jersey Shore and 45 miles southwest of New York City. Route 33 and Route 9 run through town, providing access to the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike. Manalapan has been rated the second hottest town on the East Coast by Money magazine. Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township is located near Manalapan, as well as the Jackson Outlets, Freehold Raceway Mall and The Englishtown Flea Market. Manalapan was the site of the Battle of Monmouth, a Revolutionary War held on June 28, 1778 involving British and Continental troops. On the hundredth anniversary of the Battle, in 1978, the State opened the Monmouth Battlefield State Park. A reenactment of the Battle is held annually in June. Two books that cover the history of Manalapan are “Manalapan in Three Centuries” written by James S. Brown, and “Images of America” series featuring “Manalapan and Englishtown”, written by Richard J. Dalik. Students in grades K-8 attend the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Manalapan is the home of the AT (Academically Talented) program for grades 2-6. If a student places high on standardized tests they are placed into a specialized class with other high scorers. Students in grades 9-12 attend Manalapan High School or Freehold Township High School, or go to other programs within the Freehold Regional High School District or the Monmouth County Vocational School District for specialized high school education. Manalapan High School is home to the Science/Engineering Specialized Learning Center, a prestigious program for those gifted in science and math.
